Welcome to the Boston Children’s Poetry Competition
A premier poetry contest for Massachusetts kids from kindergarten through 8th grade

The Competition will take place each year during the month of April, National Poetry Month.

The winners for each grade will be announced in June.

More than 550 poets from 48 public and private schools throughout Massachusetts,
as well as some home schoolers, participated in the poetry competition in 2023.

Our award ceremony with the winners and some of the judges, hosted by one of our sponsor Newtonville Books in Newton, MA.

All children, ages 5-14 and living in Massachusetts, are welcome to submit their poems.

A panel of judges will evaluate one entry per student or two entries, if the student submits a regular poem and a haiku.

Each poem should contain the name of the poem, the name of the author, grade of the student, the name of the teacher and the school, if applicable. Teachers, educators, and schools may submit on behalf of the students by mail, email, or through the form below. The last day to submit a poem is May 10th.

Each winner will receive a $100 gift card and an age-appropriate volume of poetry.
